Pearl Harbor ceremony set for Dec. 7 at VSMS

Pearl Harbor Day services will be held at Vinton-Shellsburg Middle School LMC from 12-1 on Sunday, 7 December 2014.  The LMC will be open to the public at 11:30; artifacts from World War II Pacific Theater servicemen will be on display.

Parent Support Group meets every month; next gathering set for Dec. 2

The Horizons Family Support Program invites area parents to a Parent Support Group. The meetings take place the first Tuesday of each month at the Horizons office at 215 North K Avenue in Vinton. We would like to sincerely thank everyone that came to our Santa Paws event Sunday; we had the best turnout we've ever had! We had a line the entire day and thank everyone for their patience and understanding. 10th annual Tour De Lights set for Dec. 7; register by Nov. 26 for T-shirt

Register for the 10th annual Tour De Lights by Nov. 26 to be sure to get this milestone T-shirt! The 10th annual Tour De Lights 5K fund-raiser for the Vinton-Shellsburg track and cross country teams takes place Sunday, Dec. 7, at the Vinton fire station.  The Tour de Lights Holiday Fun Run/Walk is scheduled for the first Sunday in December. There will be door prizes and free food to all the people who take part. The Benton County Cattlemen are providing bowls of beef stew.

'Fill the Plate' Telethon to help feed older adults set for Dec. 7

The Heritage Area Agency on Aging is hoping the public dials in to help feed at-risk older adults in eastern Iowa. Heritage is excited to announce the return of the Fill the Plate telethon to bring greater support and awareness for its Senior Nutrition Home Delivered and Congregate Meal program. Last year’s telethon raised over $105,000 to help provide nutritious meals to older adults throughout eastern Iowa.

VAMA to hold ecumenical Thanksgiving Service

The Vinton Area Ministerial Association (VAMA) will hold its ecumenical Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, November 23 at 7 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Vinton, located at 608 1st Ave.   The service will include scripture readings and short lessons from various area clergy, as well as music by the Presbyterian Church Adult Choir and Adult Hand Bell Choir.
